The unavoidable

Fountain of Vaucluse

With its lively center, its typically Provençal homes, and its activities that will delight young and old, the small village of Fontaine de Vaucluse would almost be sufficient in itself. But what gives it its unique character, and allows us to classify it without hesitation among the must-sees, is this absolutely sublime walk which will allow you to go up the Sorgue to its source, an enormous and superb chasm where the level of the water, clear and turquoise, varies with the seasons.

The ochres of Roussillon

Want a bit of Colorado during your stay in Provence? A change of scenery is guaranteed in this unique place in France. The ochres of Roussillon, an exceptional natural site, will allow you to discover a landscape tinged with red, yellow and orange colors which will transport you to the American West just a few kilometers from Mas de la Sacristière.

From the height of its 1910 meters, Mont Ventoux, the true “Roof of Provence”, is a must for any lover of the great outdoors, walks (on foot or by bike), and breathtaking landscapes. The city of Avignon

Pontifical residence for more than a century, the city of Avignon is full of a strong and unique history. Luckily, many of the monuments have stood the test of time and even today, we can appreciate vestiges of the city’s glorious past such as its ramparts, its Saint-Bénezet bridge, made famous by a famous song, or its historic center with the episcopal center, the Rocher des Doms and, of course, the unmissable Palais des Papes.

Less known and yet very typical and impressive, we also recommend the rue des tinteurs and the island of Barthelasse, which will bring their little extras to your visit to the city.

And of course, if you come in summer, we cannot recommend enough to take a trip to the Avignon festival, the largest theater and live performance event in the world, which will entertain and amaze young and old.

Provençal villages

Saint-Rémy de Provence

A source of inspiration for many painters, artists and writers, Saint-Rémy is one of the villages in Provence that you absolutely must visit. Its narrow, winding streets, its beautiful old fountains and its small shaded squares, welcoming restaurant terraces and elegant boutiques, make it an ideal place for an afternoon spent strolling through the streets of the village.

Built on one of the oldest archaeological sites in Europe, a visit to the remains of Glanum is essential for all history buffs. You can visit the large thermal baths, the long residential avenue, the temple and the natural spring of a real Gallo-Roman city dating from around thirty years BC. A stone’s throw away, you can also admire the Arc de Triomphe and the Mausoleum of the Antiques.

Les Baux de Provence

A true open-air museum, the village of Baux-de-Provence is a must-see in the Alpilles. One of the most beautiful villages in France, this atypical village is now inhabited by only a few hundred inhabitants, guarantors of a skillfully restored historical heritage which attracts more than a million visitors each year. Its citadel and its castle, real eagles’ nests perched on rocky spurs, will offer you an unforgettable view of the Crau plain, the Camargue, and the Alpilles massif. And if that hasn’t yet convinced you, the Carrières de Lumière, a digital art center built on the former site of the Val d’enfer quarries, will allow you to enjoy a magical and unforgettable show projected onto the floors and walls of a stone cathedral.

Gordes

From the top of its rock, Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages in France, is the very incarnation of the Provencal hilltop village. In the heart of the Vaucluse mountains, this “citadel village”, witness to the region’s tumultuous past, was for a long time home and source of inspiration for many artists such as Marc Chagall, Victor Vasarely or Pol Mara, and is one of the best-known and most visited villages in Provence. Its dry stone houses, its cobblestone streets and the view it offers over the Luberon are worth the detour alone. But the wealth of the village does not stop there since it is also the home of three incredible sites: first of all its castle, a real stronghold for more than 5 centuries, which was then transformed into a Renaissance castle by the family of ‘Agoult Simiane in the 16th century. A visit to Sénanque Abbey, a 12th century Cistercian monastery, surrounded by lavender fields, to which a magnificent museum is dedicated a few steps away, is also essential. And finally, the church of Saint-Firmin, and especially its semi-troglodyte cellars, will complete this visit unforgettable.

Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

The paradise of bargain hunters, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, with its 20,000 inhabitants, knows how to stand out from the crowd. The village is in fact considered, with Paris and London, as one of the three European capitals of flea market and antiques. Between water wheels, street art and small designer boutiques, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is an ideal place to recharge your batteries, stroll, let your mind wander or find inspiration. Its living environment, its Thursday producer market, its large Sunday market, the way in which its inhabitants have managed to tame and use the Sorgue, and above all its flea market island and its antique dealers’ village have made it a privileged place for all enthusiasts. art, nature or old or original objects.

Sporting holiday enthusiasts, rejoice, the Luberon and its region offer, thanks to its numerous reliefs, waterways, and its great diversity of landscapes, numerous sporting activities which will delight young and adults, whether you are a budding athlete, a lover of challenges and thrills, or simply looking for an original experience.

So, you can enjoy, according to your desires and depending on the season, a plethora of activities such as an afternoon of canoeing on the Sorgue, a day at the Orange nautical base or a canyoning trip in the Calavon basin. With the children, you can also enjoy ahorseback ridefrom the equestrian center, just a few minutes from the Mas de la Sacristière, a day at theWater Par or atParc Spirou de Monteux. And for the more sporty among you, Mont Ventoux will meet your expectations by offering you a ski descent, a paragliding jump, or simply the pleasure of joining the thousands of people who, every year, attempt the bicycle ascent of this mythical Mount. Due to its isolated position, once at the summit, you will be able to appreciate a splendid view extending from the Alpine chains to the Massif central and the Rhône Valley to the Mediterranean Sea. Be careful though, with its 21km for 1600m difference in altitude, the ascent should not be taken lightly, and we do not recommend undertaking it without good preparation.
